‘Red City’ is a fibre art piece focusing on the ideas of earthly existence, spirituality and the place in between. The jumble of scattered and low-lying black, red and white boxes, symbolizing haphazard and constricted doors, walls and windows, appear to be the foundation. However, they are resting on a layer of pure and unblemished white; the same white used to create images of the circle, the Morning Star, the elements of nature and the Medicine Wheel all hovering over top along with the stitch of a gentle breeze. Simplicity, space and the mystery of tradition are what bind the two along with the energy and vibration of the repetitious lines going back and forth, indicating the continuous struggle and unbroken connection present in the perseverance of survival.
