Inspired by the “devastatingly poignant” and haunting performance of Gavin Bryars The Sinking of the Titanic, Sea at Storm plays with ideas of how one thing affects and overlaps another. The gorgeous blues pieced together are the still water and sky, the dramatic stitching represents the tempestuous storm and distant memories of violence and tragedy at sea. The intensely thread painted detail could be frosty white caps, dolphins, whales or the ghosts of those who lost their lives long ago.
