Composition of Joy

Composition of Joy

$1500.00 (piece must stay with body of work until end of exhibit run)

60”H x 28”W

2023

Composition of Joy represents my Daughter:

b. 1984
4 children; has lived in Winnipeg for her whole life; happily married for 12 years
Very close, open, supportive relationship with her brother, many friends and family
Graduated with Masters of Composition; co-founded the Cluster New Music Festival; has worked with Groundswell New Music Series and now the Manitoba Chamber Orchestra
Is aware and empathetic to the presence/ effects of mental illness suffered by her grandmother and great-mother
Loves to garden, cook, create art, spend time with her children and family, engage with others, travel, initiate and support the possibility of change …

Art Piece: This mosaic of fabric suggests the diversity and fulfillment of life, while embracing that which is natural, new, familiar and different. An extra layer of wool batting between the front and back gives texture to the extensive thread-work throughout the piece. The range of colour adds to the interest and movement, which reflect the excitement and sheer joy of being alive, experienced by the artist’s daughter.

Panel 6 in WomanKind, from the Drawn Together Collective’s exhibit Stimulus/Response at the Mennonite Heritage Gallery in Winnipeg, MB from November 10 - December 9, 2023.
