Has lived with the presence of mental illness within her direct and extended family, although suffers none herself
Adores her six grandchildren, children and children’s spouses

Art Piece: The mountain panel represents the stability, love and support that was given to the artist and her sister, from their parents, as they grew up. The blended tones in the colour turquoise suggest the presence and encouragement of individuality and possibility that was present in their lives. The sides and bottom panel, as well as the shadows behind the figures, echo the presence of ghosts from the past and the effects of mental illness within the family unit. Encouraged to share their gifts, the theme of this piece is wonder, friendship and generosity.

Panel 5 in WomanKind, from the Drawn Together Collective’s exhibit Stimulus/Response at the Mennonite Heritage Gallery from November 10 - December 9, 2023.
