Forced to Flee represents my Oma in Russia:
b. 1895
2 children, one born in Russia, one in Winnipeg; married in Russia
Had a good life as a child and young woman; considered bourgeois and persecuted by the Black Russians during the Revolution
Lifelong trauma suffered as a result of the Revolution
Emigrated with family to Canada in 1924
Art Piece: Tones are starting to lighten up to grey with some of the fabrics slightly more luxurious. Her life was interrupted, so this piece is unfinished, representing the necessity to flee for survival. Randomly pieced to represent the chaos she experienced during this time.
